La historia de la operación de extrac-
ción de hidrocarburos y baterías del 'DON
PEDRO'. Un barco tipo 'RoRo' que tocó des-
graciadamente un arrecife y se hundió en 40
minutos a poca distancia del Puerto de Ibiza
en plena época estival a 45 m de profundidad.
Con la primera salida de fuel llegó el pánico
en la isla. Playas negras sin saber la cantidad
total que puede llegar a la costa y destruir
la temporada. Se trata de una actuación
rápida por parte de las Autoridades, el
Armador y la Empresa Aseguradora, más la
disponibilidad de equipos especializados
para sellar las pérdidas y posterior remoción
de todos los contaminantes abordo.

This is the story of the operation to recover
oil and remove bunkers from the Don Pedro.
This ill-fated vessel struck a reef and in 40
minutes sank in 45 metres of water close to the
port of Ibiza during the summer of 2007. With
the first spillage of fuel oil, panic broke out.
Beaches were covered with the black sticky
substance, and no one knew how much of it
might reach the coastline and ruin the tourist
season. This book is a photo narration of
how, with the right equipment available
at short notice, efficient local authorities
together with the ship owners and underwriters
managed to stop the leakage and
subsequently remove the oil-containing
bunkers on board.
